    Project Alpha Begins Patient Recruitment

    Date: August 22, 2024

Today is a red letter day for us at CLL Topics.

It has been a long wait, a lot of hard work on part of the researchers and even us chickens at CLL Topics, hundreds of generous donors putting their money where their hearts are and contributing to our fund-raising efforts, but finally it is official. Project Alpha begins recruiting patients today. You can read all the details in our article Project Alpha Kicks Off.

This clinical trial has a number of “firsts”. It is the first formal clinical trial using EGCG (an extract of green tea) as a potential drug for treating CLL, in human volunteers. It is the first time that a patient group has worked closely with a premier institution such as Mayo Clinic to bring to the forefront a low toxicity therapy approach that is of interest to the patient community. It is the first time that a CLL patient group has sponsored and funded a clinical trial. It is the first time that CLL Topics has taken on such a challenging task. I can keep going, but you get the picture. I am as proud as I can be.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your trial. You sponsored it, you paid for it. That is quite an achievement. Congratulations!

    Be well,

    Chaya
